I stopped in my journey before a list of name and noticed how long people lived. The father and son relationship continued for many generations as I learned that Hod populated the world in a way very different from that of today.
Adam lived a long an fruitful life even after Seth was born. He must have had hope renewed in him even though the guilt of sin was passed on from one generation to the next.
As I considered all those people and the genealogies of those who came after, I was impressed with the fact that God is interested in individuals. God made sure these names are listed so I would know each one is important to Him.
Not every one was a star as far as success or even personal holiness in their life. But still God knew each one and his family.
I wondered if Enoch was changed when he became a father at 65. For 300 years he seemed to have a special fellowship with God that was unique to both him and God. Could God have said to him one day when they walked together, “Why don’t you just come home with me?”
Would it be possible for me to do the same? Can I walk with God today? I know if I walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship together. That is why I am on this journey – so I can better learn to look at things through God’s eyes and see where I fit and what I am supposed to be doing as the passing years bring changes on me.
I wondered as I pondered – did other people know Enoch walked with God? Would they be able to tell if I did? And then I thought, What difference does that make? As long as I know I am walking in the light with God – that is all that counts. God who blessed people then, has blessed me now.
He has abundantly blessed me – even me!
The list is there, unreeled before my eyes –
A historical time-line, impressive, because of its size.
And the centuries of living that God knew personally –
Not one person was born by mistake of haphazardly.
Each one recognized as a person in his own right –
Each one known by name and important in God’s sight.
Everyone different in some ways, and in other ways the same.
Not one overlooked by God, each one loved and known by name
Although some stand out more than others.
All needing the substitute of a sacrifice that sin covers.
Even though there are billions in the world today –
God in infinite knowledge will still show each the way
To come to Him if they will seek Him with an anxious heart.
He will not turn away any one who from his sins departs –
And in repentance with turn to God and put full trust in Him,
Everyone on the long list of humanity, God is willing to save from sin.
“The list of names of people I know is long, Father. Every one is known to Thee. Some on my list in this place need Thy salvation and know it, but haven’t made it their priority. Please speak to people tonight in the Gospel meeting. Thou dost know every one. Awaken and save them I pray. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
