Matthew 7:24
These Sayings Of Mine

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

His sayings were clear, easily understood by all
Who need some plain guidance in life.
There are answers to prayer God will give when we call,
And truth from the Lord, when problems are rife.

To “ask” with an attitude of humility and need,
Is not a complicated formula to follow.
To “knock” with resolve, and diligently “seek,”
Only demands that our pride we must swallow.

To turn from the wrong through a small wicket gate,
Means I choose to listen to the call of my Lord.
Others around may want the highway that’s great,
But through the narrow gate, I must enter alone.

Each action in life is considered a fruit
That is known to be either bad or good.
Decisions that are based on the strength of God’s truth,
Bear witness to the power of God’s Word.

So the sayings of the Lord when He was teaching His own,
Are instructions for our living each day.
To obey them and do them abroad or at home,
Brings God glory when His will we obey.

In a personal way I am challenged this morning,
To consider if I am only a “hearer.”
I need to consider this parable as a warning;
Avoid self-deception – be a “hearer and doer.”

“Father God, in this text of scripture I realize are both blessings and warnings. I hear a lot as I read the Bible and listen to what others have to say about scriptural truth. But I am shortly going to be speaking to a lot of people about some important things in Revelation, and I want to be more than a teacher who knows things. I want to be able to speak of felt truth – things I have, and am experiencing. By Thy gracious providing, please help me to speak Thy truth from my heart. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
