There is no greater place for good to be accomplished, or for evil to germinate than in our homes. Strong homes make strong assemblies, not strong assemblies make strong homes. The original social structure of humanity has been under attack by the powers of darkness right from the home of Adam and Eve. If love, loyalty, order and fellowship can be stopped in the home sphere – Satan wins. The battle for the faith as it is in Christ Jesus is more often fought at home than any other place. There are evil forces arrayed against God and His people of which we are not even aware. This is where the need for the strength and power of the Lord is most challenged. In the interests of tranquility and faith, this truth is addressed here in Ephesians 6. The “armor of light” we put on to protect ourselves from the darkness of the world. The “armor of righteousness” must be put on to protect us against the deceptive power of the flesh. The “whole armor of God” is needed to protect us from the attacks of the devil on the Christian home. Even with all of the armor in place we need the power of the Spirit of God to stand firm for God in this godless age.
